TRANSLATION OF AMBROSE AUSTEN’S HANDWRITTEN WILL
In the name of god Amen. I Ambrose Austen of Jeromeville in Wayne County in the State of Ohio --
Considering the uncertainty of this mortal life: and being of a sound and perfect mind Blessed by Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (That is to say)
First I give and bequeath into my beloved wife Susanah Austen all that land, messuage and building lying and being the East half of the northeast quarter of Section eight, range fifteen, Township twenty-one lying in the foresaid County: and also all that lot or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Wayne aforesaid Twenty acres being part of the Northeast Quarter of Section 8 Township 21 and range 15 of the Canton District; and also a certain lot of ____________ of land situated in the said county of Wayne and State of Ohio being part of the southwest quarter of Section 4, Township 21 and range 15 containing 2 acres all of which lands, messuage and buildings I give to my said wife Susanah Austen during her natural life;
I also give and bequeath at and after her decease the said lands messuage and buildings above named to my Two sons Ambrose Austen and Joseph Austen to their heirs and assigns for ever.
I also give and bequeath to my eldest daughter Susanah Peirce now living at Pine Creek near Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania $200.00.
I also give and bequeath to my youngest daughter Charlotte Austen a house and Lot #61 in the Town of Jeroveville, Wayne County and State of Ohio for her sole use and her heirs and assigns forever.
I also give and bequeath to my son John Austen #100.00.
I also give to my eldest son Charles Austen $5.00/
I also give to my son Henry Austen now living at Liverpool Old England $5.00.
Lastly as to my personable Estate I hereby give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susanah Austen all my goods and chattels of every kind on the said form for the use and benefit of the same during her natural life. But at or on her death, I hereby give it and bequeath the same to my two sons Ambrose Austen and Joseph Austen and also this my will is and I hereby direct and order that in case she does not continue and live in State of widowhood, but should marry again that the said lands, premises and messuages together with the use of the personable estate shall be and is hereby directed and given to my two sons Anbrose Austen and Joseph Austen and their heirs and assigns forever.
I also hereby appoint and direct that my Three sons Charles Austen, Ambrose Austen and Joseph Austen are hereby appointed and directed to be the Executors of this my last will and testament. Hereby revoking all other wills by me made in witness hereof and have set my hand and seal this 21st day of February 1837.
